Repairs to the water treatment system completed; operational improvements ongoing

Project tracker

Projected lift date: TBD

Located in northwestern Ontario, Slate Falls Nation is home to over 250 people on reserve.

There is 1 long-term drinking water advisory:

  • A boil water advisory for the Slate Falls Public Water System was issued in June 2023 and became long-term in June 2024.

The advisory affects approximately 60 homes and 5 community buildings. Initially, it was put in place due to a power surge that caused damage to some plant equipment and a loss of pressure in the distribution system.

Windigo Hub, which is funded by Indigenous Services Canada, assisted the community in completing repairs to the water system. Additional repairs were needed after a major line break in the distribution system in February 2024, which were also completed with Hub support.

The advisory remains in place due to ongoing operational challenges.
