Repairs and upgrades to water treatment system completed
Project tracker
Projected lift date: TBD
Peepeekisis Cree Nation No.81 in Saskatchewan is home to 700 people on reserve. The community completed repairs to its water infrastructure and upgraded their water treatment plant to meet long-term water needs, with funding from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC).
There are 2 long-term drinking water advisories in place:
- a boil water advisory for the Poitras Well was set in April 2013 and became long-term in April 2014
- a boil water advisory for the Peepeekisis Main Public Water System was set in February 2015 and became long-term in February 2016
Infrastructure is in place that can produce clean drinking water. Repairs to the existing water treatment plant were completed and the Environmental Public Health Officer recommended the 2 advisories be lifted in July 2018. Upgrades to the plant were completed in December 2020 and the plant is providing clean drinking water to the community.
ISC continues to work with Peepeekisis First Nation to support chief and council in lifting the drinking water advisories.
