Ref: 2012-13 Recipient Audit Results and Follow-Up
Dear Dr. Benson:
Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) conducted a number of recipient audits in fiscal year 2012-13, including an audit of Native Counselling Services of Alberta. Attached please find a copy of the full audit report and a summary of the report. The summary will be published on the department's website in the coming weeks, along with this management letter. Should you wish to, you may provide a written response to the audit to me within 30 days. Your response will also be posted.
The audit report included the following recommendations, which we advise you and your organization to address:
- The Campaign Manager should monitor the budget on a timely basis to promote accountability at the delivery level;
- The Director of Finance should keep track of funds by program to ensure that funds are available on a timely basis to pay for expenses related to the Programs for which they were secured; and
- Native Counselling Services of Alberta should ensure that only expenses eligible under the Terms and Conditions of the Agreement are charged to the Program.
You will note that a recoverable amount of $11,611 was identified in the audit. A representative of AANDC will contact you shortly to follow up on recovery/repayment arrangements.
Please contact your local AANDC representative to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about this audit.
Sincerely,
Susan MacGowan, CMA
