Departmental sustainable development strategies are a government-wide initiative used to strengthen accountability and illustrate how AANDC, and other government departments, are managing sustainable development. The Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy (DSDS) also emphasizes AANDC's efforts in supporting and contributing to the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy.

The DSDS is updated annually through the Report on Plans and Priorities and reported on through the Departmental Performance Report.
